UPL’s potato portfolio offers an extensive range of products that include new chemical group insecticide and fungicides and innovative crop protection products to enhance agricultural viability with start-to-end crop solutions.
“Effective pest and disease management requires the use of all the tools growers have available, particularly new products or products of different chemical groups and importantly alternating their uses crop to crop”, says Justin van Elsen, Marketing and Product Development Manager – UPL Australia Limited.
“Being armed with latest product knowledge and understanding when and how they are to be used, ensures greater opportunity for growers to increase crop yields and maximise their returns. It’s about utilising the right combinations of products to sustainably deliver robust and cost effective control of weeds, pests and diseases”, said Mr van Elsen.
For over 20 years UPL has been assisting Australian farmers in addressing pre-harvest and harvest threats through an effective complement of quality products. For weed control – from pre-emergent to early post crop emergence – use group C herbicide such as Unimark 750WG (metribuzin) to control a wide range of grass and broadleaf weeds. For fungal diseases such as pink rot Zeemil 50G (metalaxyl) can be used and for early blight and late blight – Zeemil 720WG (mancozeb+metalaxyl) is an effective tool. Group 21 fungicide, RanMan 400SC*, is a new solution for late blight control. Manic® WG Fungicide Plus (mancozeb+zinc) for early blight and late blight protection will also be available soon. Manic is a new innovative fungicide with EDTA chelated zinc micro-nutrient co-formulated to provide excellent fungicide protection and the added benefit of zinc which promotes growth and plant development in soils that are zinc deficient.
For farmers managing sucking pests such as aphids and particularly seed potato growers where controlling Potato Yellow Dwarf Virus is imperative, maintaining a high standard of quality can be achieved by using MainMan 500WG* insecticide. MainMan is a unique insecticide available to potato growers, being the only group 29 insecticide with the major benefit of no negative effect on beneficial insects or foraging honey bees. Due to its novel mode of action, it shows no cross resistance to other insecticide groups such as pyrethroids, carbamates or neonicotinoids and is therefore an ideal rotational choice for managing insect resistance concerns.
“With ever increasing demands on Australian potato growers to produce higher quality food at affordable prices, use of reliable products for the control of weeds, pests and diseases is critical to maximise yields and profits”, said Mr van Elsen.
